Two Saints’ Prison Reentry and Aftercare Ministry (PRAM) relates to incarcerated persons, formerly imprisoned individuals, and their families. Two Saints’ weekly communal prayers recognize the humanity and dignity of each imprisoned and reentering man, woman, and youngster. It is important to understand that incarceration and reentry affect entire neighborhoods, especially in Rochester. Reentry services and collaborations among them are improving, yet this not happening fast enough to respond properly to the needs of thousands. They require a great deal: additional resources (which will not soon be provided); more effective coordination to reduce recidivism, assist reentrants and their families, and enhance public safety; and, of course, our continued heartfelt prayers. Some Two Sainters have personal relationships to prison and reentry through relatives, friends, and associates. Communal prayers hearten us. And we benefit from what occurs in the parish and community in consideration of us and these individuals. This is a fact of our lives. Personally, I remain an active member of reentry and reentry-related organizations. These include SMART (Safer Monroe Area Reentry Team), the Advisory Committee of the Catholic Family Center’s Housing Services Department, the Monroe County Reentry Task Force (whose active agent is Monroe County Reentry and its many programs at the Catholic Family Center), the Monroe County Office of Mental Health’s Cultural and Linguistic Competence Council, and the Prison Ministry Advisory Board of the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester.
